Medication Management

Medication management is person-centered care to optimize safe, effective, and appropriate use of prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Medication management includes a number of activities aimed at improving outcomes such as storing medications properly, monitoring adherence, and promoting self-administration.

Self-administration is a fundamental component of medication management, and is defined as an individual’s ability to take their medications as prescribed.

Self-administration includes setting realistic health goals, learning healthy medication taking skills, and understanding the physical and psychosocial consequences of misuse and non-adherence.

Medication Management Specialists

Medication Management Specialist (MMS) staff are required at Residential Rehabilitation Service (RRS) programs as a part of the updated clinical adult residential rate in Massachusetts.
